“Singapore” Editorial Illustration

Client: The Washington Post
Role: Custom Lettering, Illustration, Social Media Graphic
Art Director: Christine Ashack

I’m thrilled to represent Singapore for The Washington Post’s new travel destination site, By The Way. Their city guides are all about travelling as though you’re a local; going off the beaten path and skipping the usual tourist spots. The artwork was used on Singapore’s city guide and across social platforms to promote the city guide.

In this piece, “Singapore” is centralised in script, emphasised with a 3D drop shadow for depth, and interlaced with botanical illustrations and accents as Singapore’s known as a green city with lush, scenic greenery all around. Colour palette: red, dusty pink, yellow ochre and light grey. I was striving for a nostalgic feeling: almost like a vintage square stamp on an envelope mail, and I loved how the warm tones tied everything together.
