The Body Shop launched its new fragrance collection in May 2023, and I had so much fun dreaming up the illustrations for them. The Full Flowers Fragrance Collection consists of 4 total fragrances: Full Iris, Full Ylang Ylang, Full Orange Blossom, and Full Rose.

In total, I engraved 150 perfume bottles - 50 for their PR gifting and 100 bottles sold as limited edition in-stores, in celebration of Mother’s Day. The limited edition floral engraved bottles were sold out in 2 days! I know, I was over the moon when I heard the news.

Exploration

I studied the product descriptions of all 4 fragrances and illustrated each design according to each bottle’s relevant fragrance notes. During the initial exploration stage, I presented 2 options: floral bottle painting, and floral engraving, along with the digital mock-ups.

Why 2 options? Because while painting allows for more colour, it’s not 100% scratch-proof even after sealing. Like all hand-painted art, while it is water-resistant and scratch-resistant, it’s not 100% waterproof or scratch-proof. As for engraving, it’s 100% permanent as engraving cuts into the glass to create a permanent mark. However, colour is limited to the gilding wax options, in this case, gold or silver.

In the end, the client chose engraving. And we got started from there! They delivered all items to my studio and I engraved 4 bottles as a sample. Once they approved, I then mass-engraved the remaining bottles. All bottles were engraved in a week.
